It’s show time as the weather begins to cooperate giving us warm and sunny days. At times, a little too warm for my taste. Last weekend, I felt like I was melting away like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. The humidity was high and there was very little relief from a sun-drenched day. However, this event was so worth the trip. Continue reading “Show Time”

Life at a Glance

Are you living the life you were meant to live? These are Photos taken on the Island of Dominica. I recently spent two weeks on this island and I was inspired by its natural beauty.
I was born here many years ago and came to America at the age of two. To be honest, I have visited Dominica, several years ago, but this time seemed so different. The mountains seemed larger covered from top to bottom with coconut, bamboo, and other trees which are indigenous to this island. As I looked at the sky, the color was bluer than blue. You can also smell the freshness of the Atlantic and Caribbean Ocean. The colors of the flowers, plants and trees had an intensity I hadn’t noticed before. Beautiful homes in colors of bright orange, yellow and greens added a wonderful dimension to the landscape.

As I observed everything around me, I was amazed I hadn’t payed much attention in previous trips to this island. Why was this time so different? Then I realized I was older and looked at life very different from my younger days. I no longer took life for granted but embraced each day as if it was my last.

I met people who had given up their busy life in their perspective countries for a much slower and simpler life in Dominica. I pondered about my life and wondered if I had what it takes to change my current lifestyle, for life in a smaller country. What we give up is all the stuff we’ve accumulated over the years and certain amenities that smaller countries can’t provide.

Are we living the life we were meant to live? Sometimes I wonder because since childhood, our life has become more complicated as we continue to chase the almighty dollar. Was this what God had in mind when he placed us here on earth? If I remember correctly, he placed us in the Garden of Eden, a paradise similar to the island of Dominica but much, much better. I guess I will hold these thoughts captive and contemplate what I should do in the coming years.

When it comes to you, my suggestion if you are not interested in moving to any other country in the future, at least make time to connect with nature no matter where you are. It will make a world of difference when considering the life you are living.
THE BLAME GAME
I saw you hit a curb one day
and as I looked the other way,
all I heard you say
It’s your fault I did what I did
and I live as I live because
All your life, you found no other way
While playing the blame game.

Tic Tac Toe
There is no place to go
If you keep playing the blame game
Blaming this for that is not where it’s at
You will never be a diplomat
Here you go again blaming others all your life
which is a bad habit to keep alive
Accepting responsibility for your own actions
will point you in the right direction
Change your projection
Stand up and realize in life at any given time
Things may go wrong
But blaming others will lead to a life
full of rejection
Stop, look listen and learn
There is a better way to turn
I know you find it hard to let go
Blaming others for life’s problems is all that you know
If you continue to live this way all of your life
It will only lead to a life filled with strife
If you dedicate your life to changing this behavior
You will not feel like a failure
But an individual
who is taking charge of their life
When they stop playing the blame game.
This is dedicated to people who find it very difficult to accept responsibility for the problems in their life. Blaming others is not the answer. There is always hope if you have the desire to change your circumstances.
Do it your way

SUCCESS
Do it your way….
Setting goals and trying to be like the over achievers in our world is not for everyone. Success comes in many forms and it can be as simple as doing something you’ve never done before.
Do it your way and on your own terms. You’re the only one who can define what being successful means to you. If you try to live your life based on other people’s opinion of what your life should be, you will live a life of disappointment.
Find the truth of what being successful means to you as an individual. Stop trying to be someone who doesn’t feel comfortable in their own skin because of social pressures. The world’s view of being successful does not dictate who we are or what kind of life we would like to live in the future. We all have a different road to travel which will take us to our ultimate destination.
What does success look like for you?
Killer Hill
It was a beautiful spring morning and as I cruised through my neighborhood, I drove passed killer hill. I call it killer hill because when my children was very small, I decided it would be an adventure for us to take a nice long walk. Big mistake! As we approached the third block, there was grumbling and complaining and I had to try to carry them the rest of the way. Needless to say, I almost didn’t make it myself. It was really exhausting to say the least and I thought I was in shape. Ha!

Well, this morning as I went past killer hill, I saw an elderly man who was short, bending over because he couldn’t stand up straight with a walking cane, slowly walking up killer hill. He looked like he was in his late eighties with a scruffy white beard.

As I gazed at him with complete admiration, I began to imagine what his life was like before he got to this stage. Besides putting me to shame, walking up that hill, he had a past history that we will never completely know or understand.
What we can deduct is the commonalities from all our lives. He was someones child, educated through our school system in some capacity, worked in order to support himself and or family and went through good times and bad. I wondered if he ever served in the army. What else defined this man’s life? I began to think into the future and what my life would look like once I got to his age.
Life is short and getting shorter
Life is really short, and the quality of life getting shorter everyday. Anything can go wrong along the way. But what I admired about this man is his ability to stand up and walk even with his disabilities. Its easier to sit down and do nothing rather than stand up to do something. Will I have the desire, strength or motivation to follow his lead in spite of my age? Or will I sit down and play dead.
What I learned from this experience is to learn to enjoy each day to its fullest. While you have good health and youth on your side, don’t squander it on foolishness. Make everyday count for today is given and tomorrow is not promised. Dream and live your dreams and may your yesterdays yield better tomorrows.
