We Were Never Promised a Bed of Roses

God never promised

Life would be a bed of roses

Filled with sweet aromas

Like the gentleness of a flower

Blowing gently in the summer wind

Trials like thorns and thistles

Show up unexpectedly

Choking out life

Leaving one breathless

Aroused by the darkness which

Quenches the spirit

Uncertainty rushes in

Entangled in a web of confusion

Then light beats out the darkness

And we are reminded

Endurance gives us strength

As we persevere through hardship

Faith in God

Drowns out the darkness

Our senses are stimulated knowing

That better days lies ahead.
