Tis the season to be what?

christmas gift2Are we really thinking jolly? Have we all lost our minds?  The Christmas season can be jolly if we change our way of thinking.

I’ve worked in retail during the holidays for many years, and believe me when I express that human behaviors are not conducive to having a happy time. People fight over parking spaces and who’s next in line. I had a customer who was at least 80 years old, in poor health and felt obligated to purchase 50 different gifts for her family located in different states. If that’s not enough, a lot of men who have no idea what to buy or even have the desire to join the madness will pick up anything just to keep peace in their homes.  The common thread from men year after year is a desire to please even knowing their loved one will return the item as they have done in previous years. Baby carriages with infants less than a month old and children crying as they walk through the stores. People stressed out from all this delusion with lists upon lists of gifts they have to purchase.

mall shopping

Hustling and bustling through the malls decorated lavishly, Christmas music playing to set the mood and digital billboards drawing ones attention to sales upon sales to entice the shoppers. Tired people everywhere waiting on lines with several items hoping that they made the right choices. Caught up in a whirlwind of spending, setting them financially backwards for another year. Gifts are wrapped and delivered, finally Christmas day arrives with beautiful packages wrapped under the tree. Stress is somewhat relieved by the smiles of loved ones as they open their package.  In retail, the day after Christmas is our biggest day of returns. Some of us are not happy with our presents. Whatever happened to just being thankful?

So what’s the point?  I have come to realize people’s hearts are in the right place but a feeling of obligation clouds their judgement. Folks are spending money they don’t even have in order to make their loved ones happy. Some of us are looking for love in all the wrong places. Most consumers are going through the motion but are not entirely ecstatic. I am not a Grinch, I love Christmas just like everybody else but I believe we are going about it in the wrong way. Keeping it simple and not going overboard during the holidays would be my recommendations. Reduce your list and consider a grab bag alternative. Focus on the things that are really important and get rid of the guilt you feel if you don’t buy someone a gift. Showing love and kindness all through the year is more important than how much you spend on a gift during the holidays. Give to others who are more in need and do it in the name of someone you care about. Think of valuable ways you can share Gods blessing. Why do we keep giving to those who are already blessed with so much more?

Christmas or the season of Christmas is about reflecting on the birth of Jesus, our lord and savior. He is the greatest gift to mankind and therefore, our focus for the season should be on what he represents. Love and hope for a better future and saving those who believe from their sins. Going forward, let’s rethink how we go about celebrating Jesus’ birth.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

REALITY CHECK

reality check 2Reality is the state or quality of being real thus clarifying the state of your life. Changing your reality is more than just working towards chasing your dreams. It’s also about an expression of thought and mind; a wake up in consciousness of the world you live in. We all live in different realities or situations around the globe. Some people live in turmoil while others live in splendor. Waking up to the truth about these other realities will give you a broader perspective, and if possible, direct you to other areas where you can really make a difference in changing your world. LIVING WITH PASSION

muscian

Recently, I saw a program on PBS featuring Eric Clapton in concert. I never knew anything about his music but suddenly I was captivated by his songs and the passion in which he sang. Hanging on his every word with joy touched my soul, Mr. Clapton sang the song called Tears in Heaven. He gives through his music and we receive the benefits. If you ever want to get a glimpse of what living with passion and dedication is all about, check out people who sing for a living, play sports, musicians, dancers, or anyone who is truly committed to their intention. I was in awe as he drew me into the moment. His dedication to his art all these years is truly inspiring for all who attends his concerts. Continue reading “LIVING WITH PASSION”

Rubbernecking Delays

traffic2Have you ever been on a highway backed up by traffic for miles? Ever wonder, what’s the hold up? Slowly you crawl as time ticks away and frustration starts to build. When you finally arrive at the point of curiosity, a police officer has pulled a motorist to the side of the road or there is road work being done and everyone is beginning to slow down while gawking  thus causing rubbernecking delays. At times, it’s something very serious but that’s few and far in between in most cases. After sitting in a car for hours, extremely agitated by the turn of events that unfolded, you finally arrive late to your desired destination. Sounds eerily familiar as I believe this scene is all too common to those of us who drive day after day. Continue reading “Rubbernecking Delays”

What’s the point of Complaining?

quiet time2

Have you ever noticed in life,

no matter how much you complain,

some things remain the same.

We all have a habit of complaining about something we are unhappy with in our lives. Life can be very daunting and troubling at times, but complaining and refusing to make a decision to change the quality of your life will only keep you in limbo. Expressing frustration and sadness due to your circumstances will not bring about the change you seek to live a new reality.  To complain is to express feelings of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment of something going on in your life. Its a displeasure and if left to fester can be a habit that is really hard to break unless you take action. We all have moments when we are unhappy about our journey we are experiencing from day-to-day. As the days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months, years later, with all the complaints nothing has truly changed.  We always find excuses for not accomplishing our goals. To add  fuel to the fire, we find others who would listen to our complaints and when given any advice it sometimes fall on death ear. So what can we do to change our thinking in order to promote a season of change?

I’ve asked myself that question many times as I searched for answers as to the riddle of my life’s purpose. Thus I am also guilty as charged. Through my writing I am constantly asking myself the tough questions and experiencing the change I’ve been searching for through the power of prayer. For you it might be something else that is boggling your mind. In order to promote a season of change the most important thing you can do is to meditate, soul search, pray and ask God to point you in the right direction. The next step is to take action and stop complaining about the things you are unhappy with in your life and focus on the positive changes occurring right before your very eyes. Make a decision to let go of the past while moving towards a new future. Commit to a project that will move you forward whether in business , Education, or a new life adventure. Get on a path to discover your full potential and start enjoying your life.
